Indian Princess Head Three Dollar Gold Coins were made from 1854 to 1889. Most Three Dollar Gold Coins were made in Philadelphia.
The branch mints in Dahlonega, New Orleans, and San Francisco struck Three Dollar Gold Coins although coins from these mints are scarce!
Sharply struck with lustrous yellow-gold surfaces. Marks are minimal and of no significance.
The only New Orleans 'Three' with a mintage of 24,000. This issue saw heavy circulation resulting in a low survival rate and very few nice coins. This is an exceptionally pleasing example with strong detail and bright lustrous surfaces. Just 5 coins have graded finer at PCGS and the eye appeal of this coin is probably superior to most of those!
Lustrous surfaces with light wear on the high points of the design.
One of the rarest coins in the series with 6,000 minted and very few survivors. Akers states that this date had the fewest number of auction appearances, of any regular issue, in the 238 auctions he used for the survey in his book. This is an attractive example with lustrous surfaces that have a faint rose tint and show just a touch of wear on the high points of the design. Just 3 examples have graded finer at NGC.
Lustrous yellow-gold surfaces.
Well struck with a clean look for the grade. Yellow-gold luster with orange highlight flows across the surfaces and helps to provide wonderful eye appeal. A minor mintage of only 20,891.
Well detailed yellow-gold surfaces with a solid strike and only trivial marks. A lofty grade for the date and much nicer than normally encountered.
Satiny surfaces with a bright yellow-gold appearance. The look is quite clean with no marks of significance. Only 2,133 were minted and it is quite difficult to find in any grade let alone this nice. Only 10 coins have been graded mint state by NGC.
Just 2,133 minted and scarce in any grade, prohibitively so in mint state. This is a lovely example with rich rose-gold surfaces that are exceptionally choice for the grade. NGC has graded only a single MS-63 finer!
Well detailed yellow-gold surfaces and a mintage of only 15,558.
Beautiful yellow-gold luster flows across sharply struck surfaces with only trivial abrasions. Just 15,558 minted which, amazingly, ranks as the ninth highest mintage for the $3 Princess. A tough and desirable example in a tough and desirable series!
Lustrous yellow-gold surfaces with fewer marks than one would expect for the grade. Just 7,980 minted and a pre-Civil War date that saw heavy circulation.
Sharply struck with bright satiny luster and a nice orange hue. Just 7,036 minted and a date that saw heavy circulation and few survivors.
Well struck with lustrous yellow-gold surfaces and a popular Civil War date. Just 5,000 minted with far fewer high grade survivors than the low mintage dates of the 1880's.
Scarce in any grade and a true rarity in mint state. The 5,000 coins minted during the Civil War saw extensive circulation with an estimated 300 coins surviving in mostly XF to AU condition. This is a beautiful example with vibrant yellow-gold luster framed by a delicate rose tint at the borders. The surfaces are choice with minimal marks and give this coin wonderful eye appeal.
A scarce Civil War era issue with a mintage of just 2,630. This is a pleasing example with a sharp strike, minimal abrasions and lustrous gold surfaces.
Very scarce in any grade and rarely seen in mint state. This beauty has flashy semi proof-like surfaces with fine die striations and no significant abrasions. Outstanding quality and excellent eye appeal. Just 4,000 minted.
Flashy yellow-gold luster radiates across surfaces that are super clean for the grade. The strike is sharp and eye appeal is excellent. A scarce date with a mintage of just 4,850 coins.
4,840 minted and a date that saw widespread circulation, making mint state examples scarce. This piece is well struck and problem-free with flashy orange-gold luster.
